Netflix, Twitch or Disney+ Too Quiet? Use a Volume Increase Extension

If a streaming site is too quiet in Chrome, first switch the audio track to stereo where the site offers it and check the player and system volume. If it is still quiet, a volume increase extension such as Sound Booster Max raises that tab above 100%, up to 600%, without changing the rest of your computer.

Streaming sites are mixed for living rooms. Watch the same film on a laptop and the dialogue is a whisper while explosions are full volume. You can fix a good part of that with settings, and the rest with a volume increase extension.
Why streaming audio is quiet in a browser
- Surround mixes on stereo speakers. A 5.1 track puts most speech in a centre channel. Folded down to two small speakers, voices end up quieter than effects and music. Our guide to clearer speech goes into this.
- Wide dynamic range. Films are mixed with quiet scenes meant to be quiet.
- Small speakers. Laptops cannot reproduce the level the mix expects.
- Streamers and creators at different levels. On live platforms every channel sets its own.
Netflix and Prime Video
Open the audio and subtitles menu in the player. If the language is listed more than once, pick the plain or stereo version rather than the one labelled 5.1. This is the single most effective fix for quiet dialogue. Then boost the tab if you still need more.
Disney+ and other film services
On Disney+ and similar services, check the audio menu in the same way. Choose a stereo track if one is offered, keep the player's volume at maximum and use the booster for the remainder. Start at about 200% for dialogue-heavy shows.
Twitch and live streams
Stream audio varies from channel to channel and even within a stream. Use the player's volume first. If a streamer's microphone is quiet, boost the tab, and keep the control window within reach so you can pull it back when game sound or alerts kick in. For recorded video, see the YouTube volume booster guide.
Music and podcast web players
Music is already mastered loud, so it needs far less boost than speech: 120% to 150% is typical. For Spotify specifically, see how to make Spotify louder, and for audio files, how to make an MP3 louder.
How to use a volume increase extension
- Add Sound Booster Max to Chrome on your computer and pin the green icon.
- Start the film, show or stream.
- Click the green icon on that tab. A small control window opens.
- Raise the slider until speech is clear. Keep the window open while you watch.
The setting belongs to that tab. A second tab playing something else is unaffected.
Things to know on streaming sites
- Full screen. While a tab is boosted, Chrome may maximise the video inside the window instead of going fully full screen. Press F11 on Windows or Control + Command + F on Mac for browser full screen.
- Protected players. A few services behave differently with any audio extension. If a title will not play while boosting, switch the boost off for that tab.
- Apps are separate. The Netflix or Disney+ app from an app store is not a browser tab, so an extension cannot boost it. Watch in Chrome instead.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Netflix volume booster?
Netflix has no volume booster built in. For Netflix in Chrome, a volume booster extension such as Sound Booster Max raises the tab above 100%, up to 600%.
Does a Twitch volume booster work on live streams?
Yes. It boosts whatever audio the tab is playing, live or recorded.
Why is the volume so low on Disney+ in a browser?
Usually a surround track playing on stereo speakers, plus a wide dynamic range. Choose stereo if available, then boost.
Will boosting make loud scenes too loud?
It raises everything by the same amount, so yes, loud scenes get louder. Pick a level that makes dialogue clear and be ready to lower it.
